Background

Basin Studies are part of the U.S.Department of the Interior's WaterSMART Program and are key components of the Bureau of Reclamation’s plan for implementing the SECURE Water Act (Title IX, Subtitle F of Public Law 111-11).

Reclamation is working to address an increasing set of water supply challenges in Southern California, including chronic water shortages due to increased population growth, climate variability and change, and heightened competition for finite water supplies.

Through these activities, Reclamation's Southern California Area Office is partnering with stakeholders to conduct studies that define options for meeting future water demands in river basins where imbalances in supply and demand exist or are projected to occur.
