Reclamation introduced Otto Otter in 1975 to help teach families about the importance of water safety around canals and other Reclamation-managed waters.The Otter Water Safety Program began as a youth-focused initiative but today serves a broader purpose. Otto helps Reclamation employees, educators and partners share water safety messages with children, families and communities. Whether near a canal, dam, or reservoir, Otto reminds us to stay alert, stay away, and stay responsible around water.
