Previously Funded Basin Studies

Reclamation has funded 25 studies. In Fiscal Year 2009, three studies were funded; in Fiscal Year 2010, five studies were funded; in Fiscal Year 2011, four studies were funded; in Fiscal Year 2012, five studies were funded; in Fiscal Year 2013 two basin studies were funded and three plans of study were funded and three studies were funded in FY 2014; in Fiscal Year 2015, two basin studies were funded and two plans of study were funded; and in Fiscal Year 2016 one basin study was funded and two basin study updates were funded. In 2017, two studies were funded.

2011

  • Hood River Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Hood River County Water Planning Group to fund the study. The study area encompasses a 339 square-mile region in Hood River County in north-central Oregon.
  • Klamath River Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the State of California Department of Water Resources and State of Oregon Water Resources Department to fund the study. The study area encompasses 12,100 square miles along the boundary of California and Oregon.
  • Lower Rio Grande Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Rio Grande Regional Water Authority to fund the study. The study area encompasses 122,400 square miles along the United States/Mexico border from Fort Quitman, Texas to the Gulf of Mexico. (Completed Study Report)
  • Santa Fe Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the City of Santa Fe and County of Santa Fe to fund the study. The study area is in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado.

2010

  • Henry's Fork of the Snake River Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Idaho Water Resource Board to fund the study. The study area is located upstream of the confluence of the Henry's Fork and the Snake River in central Idaho. Learn more on Project Website. (Completed Study Report)
  • Niobrara River Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources and Upper Niobrara-White Natural Resources District to fund the study. The study area is located along the Niobrara River in northern Nebraska.
  • Santa Ana River Watershed Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority to fund the study. The study area encompasses 2,650 square miles that comprise the Santa Ana Watershed in southern California. (Completed Study Report)
  • Southeast California Regional Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Borrego Water District to fund the study. The study area is located in the desert agricultural areas and communities within the lower Colorado River Hydrologic Region.
  • Truckee River Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Truckee River Flood Management Project, Placer County Water Agency, Truckee Meadows Water Authority and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.

2009

  • Colorado River Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Colorado River Basin States to fund the study. The study area encompasses the Colorado River Basin States including portions of Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.   • St. Mary and Milk River Basins Study - Reclamation partnered with the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation to fund the study. The study area encompasses north-central Montana, southern Alberta and Saskatchewan in Canada and includes the Blackfeet and Ft. Belknap Indian Reservations. They have also developed a Plan of Study.   • Yakima River Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Washington Department of Ecology - Office of Columbia River to fund the study. The study area is located in south-central Washington. Completed Study
