Hazardous Materials and Environmental Management System

Reclamation's Lower Colorado Basin HazMat Office provides technical and regulatory expertise and coordination for a number of Federal, State and Local hazmat regulator programs concerning air and water quality, chemical and oil spill emergency response, hazardous waste management and disposal, Environmental Management System implementation and coordination with the Region's occupational safety and health office for health and safety regulations and requirements.

Services we provide:

  • Responding to and cleaning-up chemical and oil spills and illegal dump sites on the Lower Colorado River, Reclamation property, and other locations within Lower Colorado Basin boundaries.

  • Provide assistance in maintaining standards established in federal, state and local environment laws and regulations by communicating changes to the standards throughout the Lower Colorado Basin Region.  

  • Coordinationing with the Regional occupational safety and health office by overseeing the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) Hazmat requirements as required by OSHA and environmental laws, and regulations.

  • Auditing Reclamation programs for environmental compliance.

Through the use of a comprehensive Environmental Management system (EMS) as set forth in Department of the Interior and Reclamation Policy and to ensure effective environmental stewardship, LCBR - EMS also enhances the Region’s sustainability, recycling, and energy management goals and objectives
