Determination of No Archaeological Interest: Site 10PR452

The Bureau of Reclamation has reviewed the archaeological site known as 10PR452 for its capability of providing scientific or humanistic understandings of past human behavior, cultural adaptation, and related topics in connection to recent disturbances within the site. The site is located on Reclamation lands near the American Falls Dam in Power County. It has been subject to multiple periods of disturbance starting with the construction of the current American Falls Dam in the mid-1970s and most recently by utility excavations through the site.

Due to these disturbances, Reclamation archaeologists recommended that 10PR452 is no longer eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places and that it no longer meets the qualifications of archaeological interest under the Archaeological Resources Protection Act. The State Historic Preservation Officer and American Indian Tribes were consulted on these recommendations.

In accordance with 43 CFR §7.33(e), this serves as public notice that the Snake River Area Manager has determined that this site no longer meets these qualifications. For questions about this determination please contact Reclamation Archaeologist Nikki Polson at npolson@usbr.gov. Under the provisions of 43 CFR §7.33(f), any interested individual may request in writing that the Departmental Consulting Archeologist of the National Park Service review any final determination that 10PR452 is no longer an archaeological resource. If you wish to do so, two (2) copies of the request should be sent to the Departmental Consulting Archeologist, National Park Service, P.O. Box 37127, Washington DC 20013-7127. This request should document why you disagree with the determination. The request will be reviewed and the Departmental Consulting Archeologist will prepare a final professional recommendation within 60 days of the request. For the full text of the process see 43 CFR §7.33.
