Ongoing Shoreline Protection Projects

  • July 2021 – The first private community shoreline protection area, Sandelin Lane, was awarded for design and construction.
  • November 2022 – The Speelyi Beach Shoreline Protection Area is in the design phase.
  • January 2023 – Awarded Public Law (PL) 93-638 contract with the Yakama Nation for design and construction of shoreline protection for the Domerie Bay, Timber Cove and Night Sky shoreline protection areas.
  • May 2024 – Anticipated completion of the Morgan Creek shoreline protection area.
  • Additional shoreline protection will be implemented and coordinated with private landowners as funding becomes available.
  • Shoreline landowners and the public will be notified about shoreline designs and construction schedule via mail and postings at U.S. Forest Service facilities on an annual basis.
  • Reclamation and Ecology will continue to meet with landowners throughout project implementation, which is anticipated to be completed in 2028. All shoreline protection will be completed prior to raising the reservoir. Shoreline Protection Map >>

Completed construction in preparation to raising the reservoir three-feet (2,240 to 2,243 feet)

  • April 2017 – Modified radial gates (raised 3 feet) at the Cle Elum Dam spillway.
  • November 2017 – Completed shoreline protection for U.S. Forest Service facilities at Cle Elum River Campground
  • 2018 – Modified three saddle dikes at the south end of reservoir
  • May 2019 – Completed shoreline protection and other improvements at the Speelyi Beach Day Use Area. This includes raising two saddle dikes in this area to sufficient elevation.
  • August 2021 – Completed shoreline protection along two embankments on Salmon La Sac Road
  • May 2022 – Completed shoreline protection and other improvements at Wish Poosh Campground.
