Third Power Plant

In the 1960s, forecasts of energy shortages led to the construction of Grand Coulee's Third Powerplant. A treaty with Canada provided for upriver storage reservoirs, ensuring adequate flow for the additional turbines. The Third Powerplant, begun in 1967 and completed in 1980, more than doubled Grand Coulee's generating capacity.
