The Pallid Sturgeon (Scaphirhynchus albus) is one of the largest fish found in the Missouri-Mississippi River drainage, weighing up to 85 lbs. The Pallid Sturgeon is a Federally Endangered species.

Management has placed the NEPA/ESA components of this project on hold until reimbursable funding issues can be worked out. Alternative A - Dam with fish ladder has been designed to 60% and physically modeled. Alternative B - River wide rock ramp with low flow notch and complex channel is in a conceptual phase, designs and modeling are expected to continue.

Additional Information: During 2016, the Avalanche Irrigation District requested a long term water service contract from Reclamation to provide irrigation water from Canyon Ferry Reservoir. The project proponents completed test wells attempting to show a connection between groundwater and surface water. Testing showed impacts. Public input resulted in the proponents taking a step back to consider additional alternatives. AID has hired a consultant to complete the EA process.

Continued levels of water seepage through the dikes could lead to failure and result in property and resource damage.
