Federal Register Notices and Related Resources

The Federal Register is a daily publication that provides a uniform system for publishing Presidential and Federal agency documents. It is published on all official U.S. government workdays. Federal Register notices can announce meetings, availability of applications, grant applications deadlines, availability of environmental impact statements, etc.
Federal Register notices use plain language and follow a very specific format provided by the Document Drafting Handbook. Federal advisory committees, information collection approvals, and rulemakings also publish Federal Register notices. A rule is generally published first as a proposed rule and then as a final rule. Once a final rule is published, it is codified in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and remains in effect until it is modified by publication of another rule.
