Sunroc Corporation Proposed Expanded Permit Area (Amendment to Existing Land Use Permit 11-07-14-LA705)
The Alpine Bear Pit is the name used to refer to an area approximately 0.5 miles southwest of Alpine, Wyoming, that encompasses 317 acres in total within federal lands acquired for the operation of Palisades Dam and Reservoir. The Alpine Bear Pit area straddles the Idaho and Wyoming border at the east edge of Palisades Reservoir, west of U.S. Highway 89.
Sunroc Corporation is authorized to extract gravel from an 81.5-acre area in the Alpine Bear Pit through 31 August 2028. Sunroc is seeking the Bureau of Reclamation’s approval to utilize an expanded extraction area within the Alpine Bear Pit area. This proposed amendment would allow Sunroc to extract materials from an additional 158.3 acres, bringing the total area of federal lands permitted for materials extraction by Sunroc under Land Use Permit 11-07-14-LA705 to approximately 240 acres.
