Minidoka Powerplant Unit 7 Structure Maintenance & Rehabilitation

Reclamation has completed a final Environmental Assessment (EA)/FONSI (Finding of No Significant Impact) for proposed maintenance and rehabilitation of the Minidoka Powerplant Unit 7, located at Minidoka Dam in Minidoka County, Idaho.

The project addresses the need for replacement and repair of the original bulkhead gate structure that has deteriorated over 75 years in service. The bulkhead gate steel slots and adjacent concrete have deteriorated to a point where the bulkhead gate may not be adequately stabilized in the structure, and failure could result in the dewatering of Lake Walcott. Leaks caused by this degradation severely hamper Reclamation’s ability to dewater and perform adequate routine maintenance on the lower portion of Unit 7.

This project will improve the structural integrity of Unit 7 to avoid further deterioration and allow dewatering for regular maintenance. Work is expected to begin in the fall of 2019.
