NAPA, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation will host an open house at Lake Berryessa’s Dufer Point Visitor Center on Sept. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. to share information and gather public feedback on upcoming projects along East Side Road, scheduled to begin in 2025.

Reclamation is preparing Environmental Assessments to guide several restoration and management efforts. The first project, the East Side Road Fuel Reduction Project, proposes targeted grazing and prescribed fire to reduce wildfire risk and improve ecosystem health. This assessment is expected to open for public comment later this fall.

In addition, Reclamation has secured federal funding to support rehabilitation efforts to replace East Side Road culverts and rehabilitation of burned areas, which will restore fencing and native grasslands damaged by the wildfire.

These projects aim to address non-emergency repairs and improve lands unlikely to recover naturally following the 2020 LNU Lightning Complex Fire, which burned more than 400 acres of Lake Berryessa’s northeast shoreline and 60% of Solano Project lands. Planned efforts will also help reduce invasive species such as black mustard and mitigate future fire risk.
