Reclamation is providing funding and technical support to the City of El Paso to develop its waste water reuse project. In this project treated waste water is conveyed in a purple piping system to parks, golf courses and industry to conserve potable water supply. The reuse program is projected to conserve about 1.8 billion gallons of potable water each year when fully developed. Texas A&M research center in El Paso is providing irrigation information to promote the use of this additional source of water. The reuse water is already being used at several city parks and one major golf course. Efficient use of the water supply is critical to the City of El Paso which is located in the Chihuahuan Desert.
