Lake Berryessa Nutrient Loading Investigation Associated with Fire Caused Erosion
Project ID: 8111
Principal Investigator: Stuart Angerer
Research Topic: Water Quality
Funded Fiscal Years:
2018 and
2019
Keywords: None
Research Question
Will winter runoff from fire impacted slopes impact the nutrient loads in Lake Berryessa, thus making it more susceptible to Harmful Algal Blooms?
Need and Benefit
Lake Berryessa was heavily impacted in 2018 by the County Fire that burned over 90,000 acres in Yolo and Napa counties of California. The entire northwestern watershed was extensively burned. With the winter rainy season rapidly approaching it would be beneficial to begin acquiring samples as background to be able to compare post winter effects.
