West-wide Climate Risk Assessments Agricultural Demands data visualization

Project ID: 7123
Principal Investigator: Kurt Wille
Research Topic: Water Resource Data Analysis
Funded Fiscal Years: 2017

Research Question

Can climate risk assessment and water demand projection data be served publicly in an intuitive and visual manner? Currently, it is difficult to access agricultural water demand data developed by the Bureau of Reclamation. This efforts aims to develop a mechanism to provide agricultural water demand data to the public using an intuitive, map-based approach.

Need and Benefit

The public and Congress is lacking a means to access agricultural water demand data data in a meaningful way. These data were produced by Reclamation over two years ago as part of Reclamation's West-wide Climate Risk Assessments (WWCRA) activity. The data formed an integral part of the analysis included in Technical Memorandum No. 86-68210-2014-01, West-Wide Climate Risk Assessments:Irrigation Demand and Reservoir Evaporation Projections. The data have stand-alone value. This research project aims at providing a means to visualize and download these data so the data can be explored and leveraged for other activities. The development of data access tools will provide benefit by allowing researchers and other interested parties to utilize the data for other climate change and related scientific efforts.
