Research Question

Currently there are different costing software and existing cost methodologies that different companies use to provide a cost for water desalination. A complete list of software and what type of information they provide and a list of different cost methodologies being used to cost desalination does not exist. With a list like this a better combination or decision on what could be a better cost system to use for a particular project would be of great use.

Need and Benefit

The need and benefit of this scoping task is to clearly identify what currently exists in cost estimation and evaluate how it is currently being used. A complete list of the many options out there is really non-existent and it would be a benefit to have something that identifies how many cost methodologies and software are actually out there being used by industry and academia for cost estimating.
