Kings Spill Environmental Assessment

The Kings Spill area spans roughly 30 acres and sits 3 miles northwest from Rupert, Idaho, in Minidoka County along the Snake River Plain of southern Idaho. The Kings Spill area is a natural depression where water tends to pool during high water events. This area experienced a significant flooding event in the winter of 2016-2017. Residences, road, bridges, and canal infrastructure all suffered major damage.

Reclamation’s purpose for the proposed action is to respond to Minidoka Irrigation District’s request to construct a berm around the existing Kings Spill area, expand one existing flood holing pond, and create two additional flood water catchment ponds. This action would occur during the winter of 2022-2023, depending on funding.

To receive the scoping package, please contact Rochelle Ochoa, Snake River Area Office, 230 Collins Road, Boise, ID 83702, or email at sra-nepa-comments@usbr.gov. Analysis of the proposal will be documented in the environmental assessment completed spring 2022.
