SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation announced today it will conduct public negotiations to renew the five long-term water supply contracts for wildlife refuges managed by federal, state and local agencies.
Reclamation in 2001 completed five 25-year contracts: two with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, for state-managed wetland areas, two with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for wetlands in the Central Valley’s National Wildlife Refuge complexes, and one with the Grassland Water District. The contracts were completed pursuant to Section 3406(d) of the Central Valley Project Improvement Act and provide for renewal by Feb. 28, 2026.
Reclamation will negotiate with representatives from the three agencies at the same time, in-person, on Tuesday, Jan. 7, between 9:30 a.m. and noon, and Thursday, Jan. 9, between 9:30 a.m. and noon, at 801 I Street, Sacramento, CA 95814. The public is welcome to attend and will have the opportunity to provide comments at the end of each session regarding these contracting actions. Participation instructions and the proposed contract will be available at each session.
