AUBURN, Calif. - The Bureau of Reclamation recently awarded a new goat grazing contract to maintain vegetation for fuels and fire management. The contract covers over 1,700 acres within the Auburn Project Lands/Auburn State Recreation Area, Folsom-South Canal, Lake Berryessa, and New Melones areas.

Work will begin this fall by contractor, Capra Environmental Services, and is expected to be complete by March 2025.

Prior to initiating fuels reduction activities, Reclamation and Capra Environmental Services will coordinate project site access with fire safe councils and registered “Firewise USA” neighborhoods. The goat herds will move to different areas throughout Reclamation lands depending on conditions and availability of resources at the sites. No recreational trail closures are expected to occur during the continuing fuels management work.
