Division of Planning (MP-700)
The Division of Planning provides policy and technical advice, planning expertise, project and program management services, and analytic assistance to the Mid-Pacific Regional Director, the Regional Management Team, and individual Regional managers. The Division prepares multi-purpose water resource studies and develops integrated resource plans and projects for management of water, land, power, and other associated natural resources for the Region, in collaboration with State and local partners.
The Division manages feasibility studies for potential new water storage and conveyance projects in California’s Central Valley and for the rehabilitation or reoperation of the aging water system infrastructure throughout the Mid-Pacific Region. The Division also conducts strategic planning, appraisal-level, special studies, and Basin Studies. In addition, the Division manages the Title XVI Program, reimbursing project sponsors who construct authorized recycling, reuse, and desalinization projects.
The Planning Division provides project managers for economic, financial, and technical efforts. Technical support is provided to address Regional water quality issues and regulatory requirements; to evaluate climate-change induced impacts to hydrology, demand and other parameters and to formulate adaptive actions; and to compare the integrated Central Valley Project/State Water Project operations under various futures and assumptions for planning studies and other regional decision-making processes. The Division’s technical staff evaluates various water infrastructure and management alternatives and strategies and tests the scientific underpinnings to objectively evaluate the benefits and impacts to water supply, water quality, power, and natural resources, as well as compliance with regulations applicable to the Federal water projects within the Region.
