Three Reclamation employees honored by American Concrete Institute

DENVER - J. Scott Keim, P.E., Catherine Lucero, P.E., and Katie Bartojay, P.E., FACI, from the Bureau of Reclamation's Technical Service Center in Denver, Colorado, were recently recognized by the American Concrete Institute for their work at Reclamation in concrete and support within the concrete industry.

"My congratulations go out to Scott, Catherine and Katie," said TSC Director Richard LaFond. "Their recognition from ACI is well deserved and is representative of the outstanding character and professionalism of not only their work but the work of the entire TSC as it supports Reclamation's mission of delivering water and generating hydropower."

J. Scott Keim, P.E., was named an ACI Fellow of the Institute. Keim, a technical specialist for the Concrete and Structural Laboratory Group, has 28 years of concrete industry experience. He chairs ACI Committee 329, Performance Criteria for Ready Mixed Concrete and serves on several other ACI committees. He has served two terms as president of the Rocky Mountain Chapter, ACI, and is a member of the chapter's certification committee. Scott received the ACI Chapter Activities Award in 2019 and established a certification program for the Rocky Mountain Chapter. He earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the Metropolitan State University of Denver and is a registered Professional Engineer in Colorado.

Catherine Lucero, P.E., received the ACI Young Member Award for Professional Achievement. She is a civil engineer at the Concrete and Structural Laboratory and has more than five years of experience. Lucero is the president of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of ACI, where she also serves on the Membership and Community Outreach committees. Her interests include designing and testing mass concrete, mass concrete construction and supplementary cementitious materials to increase durability. Lucero earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from The University of New Mexico in 2013 and a Master of Science in civil engineering from Purdue University in 2015. She is a registered Professional Engineer in New Mexico.

Katie Bartojay, P.E., FACI, received the ACI Chapter Activities Award. She is the manager of Reclamation's Concrete and Structural Laboratory. She has been on a team of concrete experts at Reclamation for 15 years and was Reclamation's 2011 Engineer of the Year. In 2016, the American Concrete Institute named Katie an Institute Fellow. She is a past president of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of ACI and currently serves on several ACI committees. In 2007, she was a featured Reclamation speaker on the History Channel's Modern Marvels program "Dams." She has a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and is a registered Professional Engineer in Colorado.
