On June 21, the Bureau of Reclamation’s Lower Colorado Basin Region received the 2020 Federally Employed Women Federal Department/Agency Award. The Region’s nomination was based on the efforts and support it provided the local FEW Gems of the Desert Chapter when it hosted the 2019 Western Region Training Program conference at the Sun Coast Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“The Gems of the Desert Chapter would not have been so successful in organizing and paying for the 2019 WRTP without the generous support of Reclamation and the EEO Office,” said former Gems of the Desert Chapter President Yvette Scott-Butler. “The fact that so many agency employees were approved to take two full workdays away from their everyday duties to attend and/or present at the 2019 WRTP shows the commitment and support of the Region’s management for FEW and its mission.”

Founded in 1968, the FEW organization was started as a national women’s career advocacy group and champions programs that help women enhance their career opportunities through education and training; encourage diversity and equity in the workplace; and provide opportunities for professional growth through leadership development, education, mentoring, and networking.
