The Bureau of Reclamation takes pride in its diverse workforce. Today we’re highlighting employee James Peters, a hydro repairman in the Great Plains region. James grew up in Cody, Wyoming, and before joining Reclamation served three years of active duty in the U.S. Army.

Peters deployed to Iraq for one year and upon his return, attended Colorado Mesa University where he received his Associate’s Degree in Welding and Manufacturing Technology. Shortly thereafter, James was hired by Reclamation as a hydro repairman at Seminoe Dam in Wyoming.

For more than a year, James has worked at Reclamation’s Seminoe and Kortes Powerplants. His work involves checking and servicing powerplant equipment, and assisting journeyman electricians and mechanics with their work. “I love my job because I can do something different everyday,” Peters said.

For those of you who may be interested in pursuing a career with Reclamation, Peters pointed out a few of the reasons why he’s decided to work for Reclamation. “The work is challenging and rewarding, and there are always opportunities to grow and become successful.” Peters added, “The people make the work worthwhile too. My coworkers are all friendly and have great personalities which makes going to work that much more enjoyable.”

Outside of work, Peters is an outdoorsman. Depending on the time of year, he and his family like to spend their free time riding mules in the backcountry. He likes to work on projects that involve keeping his house and other prized possessions in quality, working order.

Reclamation is proud of our subject matter experts who help manage and deliver water to the West. If you or someone you know is interested in joining the Reclamation team, visit https://go.usa.gov/xPRjg to see a list of our current job openings.
