From Sept. 9 to 19, Reclamation’s Mid-Pacific Region hosted a delegation of 11 officials from the Ministry of National Integration and the National Water Agency of Brazil. The group came to the United States for a Central Valley Project and the Newlands Project study tour, including the Truckee Canal. They toured several Reclamation facilities, from Lahontan Reservoir to Shasta Dam, Folsom Dam, the Central Valley Project Operations Office and Joint Operations Center, the C.W. Bill Jones Pumping Plant and Tracy Fish Collection Facility and the O’Neill Pumping-Generating Plant.

In addition, Reclamation arranged to tour California Department of Water Resources’ State Water Project facilities, as officials discussed the integration of the CVP and SWP and how the two agencies work together to provide water to Californians. CVP Operations Manager Jeff Rieker led the study tour.

The study tour is part of a broader partnership between the country of Brazil and the U.S. on water project operations, managed through the U.S. Geologic Survey and Reclamation’s International Affairs Office. The Mid-Pacific Region was honored to host the delegation and assist Brazil’s water managers as they develop their country’s water infrastructure.
