It was a hot one on June 23 at Lake Berryessa this year, but a little heat wasn’t going to keep the kids and volunteers down! In fact, the combination of spending time outdoors in the park, boating and catching fish was a powerful enough incentive to maintain happy spirits. The event brought in 13 child participants, and 12 volunteers who provided boats and subject matter expertise.

For many, this was their first ever fishing experience. One of the highlights of the day included walking a child through his first experience of placing a live worm onto a fishing hook. The child was delighted by the opportunity.

After spending the morning on the water, the boats traveled back to shore where participants and volunteers alike were greeted with a delicious lunch. During lunch, the children shared stories about the morning’s fishing adventures, and could be heard expressing interest in returning to the event next year.

The event could not have taken place without the hard work and dedication of its volunteers who committed their time to ensuring this event took place. Additionally, a big “Thanks!” to Fairfield-Suisun Bass Reapers, Best Bass Tournaments and Monticello Ski Club for their continued support. We would also like to thank the teams from California Fish and Wildlife and CalFire who came out to support the event.
