Bureau of Reclamation retiree David W. Harris recognized as American Society of Civil Engineers Fellow

Bureau of Reclamation retiree David W. Harris, Ph.D., was recently recognized as an American Society of Engineers Fellow and an American Society of Engineers/Structural Engineering Institute Fellow. Fellows have made celebrated contributions and developed creative solutions that change lives around the world. It is a prestigious honor held by 3% of ASCE members.

Harris worked for Reclamation for more than 35 years and was involved with concrete and embankment dams' safety, structures and water conveyance facilities throughout the Western United States. He worked on the staff for analysis design and later was the chief of the Engineering Division and manager of the Materials Laboratory in the Technical Service Center. He published numerous papers on concrete properties based on more than 15 years of analysis of tests of mass concrete.

While at Reclamation, he was an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado, Denver for 15 years and also taught at the Colorado School of Mines.

Harris has a bachelor of science from the University of Maryland, Master of Engineering from Texas A&M University and a Ph.D., from the University of Colorado.
