Kyle Hughes is 2017 Regional Engineer of the Year

Kyle Hughes, 2017 regional Engineer of the YearKyle Hughes is the winner of Bureau of Reclamation Mid-Pacific Region’s 2017 Engineer of the Year award. Hughes, a civil engineer in the Mid-Pacific Construction Office, was recognized for his work as resident engineer for Reclamation’s Safety of Dams modifications to Stampede Dam, 10 miles northeast of Truckee.

“Kyle’s leadership and foresight for recognizing and resolving issues resulted in several instances that Reclamation could make adjustments before affecting the contractor’s operations at Stampede Dam,” said Regional Director David Murillo. “He was also instrumental in coordinating with cooperating agencies like U.S. Forest Service, and several county and State Water Board groups that greatly appreciated his attention to their concerns, effects on the public and overall execution of the project.”

Many of the practices Hughes implemented at Stampede Dam have become general business practices in MPCO.

Hughes has also provided multiple training sessions to other Reclamation project managers on scheduling and tracking project costs.

Hughes graduated from Chico State in 2009 with a degree in Civil Engineering and began working for Reclamation thereafter. He and his wife welcomed their first daughter, Kaia, in September.
