The Bureau of Reclamation, Anheuser-Busch, Solano County Water Agency (SCWA) and Solano County Resource Conservation District recently led a World Environment Day event at Lake Berryessa.

This annual event at Lake Berryessa is held on the first Sunday in June. This year’s World Environment Day theme was “connecting people to nature.” Lake Berryessa has a lot of opportunities for visitors to connect with nature, from hiking trails to recreating on the water. That’s why our 17 volunteers helped us collect litter in the Markley Cove area at this year’s event. They helped us make sure that when visitors come to Lake Berryessa they see the nature and beauty this area has to offer.

World Environment Day encourages worldwide awareness and action for the environment. Our group of volunteers collected over 100 pounds of trash and recyclables at this event. The cleanup lasted two hours, and after the team finished their work they met at Markley Cove for a group picture and the final weigh in of the trash collected from the shoreline. SCWA provided refreshments at the end of the morning as a thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to help ensure Lake Berryessa is free of trash!

We were thrilled with this year’s volunteers who stepped up to help us keep Lake Berryessa clean, and we hope to see even more volunteers next year. The lake is a staple in the local community, and as Park Ranger Dylan Dowe put it, “it’s so great to see the community turn out and help us maintain the beauty of Lake Berryessa, their contributions are much appreciated!”
