Sierra Foothill Nature Bowl 2017

The smiling faces belong to one of fourteen teams competing in Nature BowlThe Bureau of Reclamation's Mid-Pacific Region hosted Nature Bowl at its New Melones Lake Visitor Center, April 20. This year’s event had its greatest turnout ever, with approximately 120 students, third through sixth grade. Nature Bowl is an annual event where schools from the Sierra Foothills in central California compete in a series of nature-themed challenges.

Students prepared for several months on their presentations, such as “Enviromercials” where teams address an environmental issue to an audience of students, parents, teachers and judges. Other activities included a Nature Relay and a Nature Investigation Hike, where students compete using scientific inquiry and identification skills to solve challenges.

The top scoring third/fourth and fifth/sixth grade teams move on to the State Finals held May 6 in Sacramento.

Reclamation, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools coordinated the event.
