As the river basins in Utah are experiencing snowpack that is approaching record levels, the current water supply forecasts indicate runoff will be higher than normal. Those forecasts create complex reservoir operation challenges to safely capture and release high flows while protecting at-risk downstream populations, particularly for the many dams along or near the Wasatch Front. Reclamation and its operating partners are already releasing higher-than-normal flows from several dams in order to create extra reservoir space for projected spring inflows. Those release flows will likely increase into and through the runoff season. Therefore Reclamation’s Provo Area Office held a news conference on Monday, March 27 to discuss forecasts for the anticipated high spring runoff and reservoir operations.

The media turnout was well received. To view an airing from the event, check out Fox 13 News.
