The Bureau of Reclamation’s San Joaquin River Restoration Program has built a temporary fish collection structure in the San Joaquin River to protect juvenile Chinook salmon from predators. The structure, a fence built of wire mesh panels, metal posts and collection box, was constructed to capture juvenile salmon and transport them downstream to be released to head out to the ocean. Hopefully, we will see them again in 3 to 5 years when they return to spawn in the river.

The two men, as seen in the photograph, are responsible for checking the fish collection box for salmon and cleaning the box of all debris. The blue basket, seen at the left, is used to collect the fish from the container to be transported downstream to the release area.
