Written by: Winetta Owens

The Newlands Project “V” Canal is located about 8 miles west of Fallon, Nevada. The canal was constructed in 1904-05 and is 27 miles in length; it has a capacity of 1,500 cubic feet per second. The “V” Canal Power Plant has two 400 kilowatt generators and provides power to the Fallon area. The canal is operated and maintained by the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District.

As shown in the photograph taken December 30, 2015, the “V” Canal has experienced severe drought conditions. For more information on the “V” Canal, please visit: http://www.tcid.org/projects/detail-view/automation-project
