Sunrise on Lake Ewauna – Photo Credit: Brock PhillipsLake Ewauna is located .8 miles from Klamath Falls, Oregon, and provides water for the Bureau of Reclamation’s Klamath Project. It is the headwaters of the Klamath River and is fed by the Link River from Upper Klamath Lake. It is controlled by water releases from Keno Dam 18 miles downstream.

In the 1950s, Lake Ewauna was a log pond for Modoc Lumber and Ewauna Box Factory. After removal of the logs, James W. Kerns founded the Ewauna Rowing Club, Inc., in 1970. By 1995, the Modoc Lumber was shut down. Today, the “Ewauna Rowing Club” members continue to enjoy rowing in the Klamath Basin.

Other recreational activities visitors can enjoy are fishing (bullhead and rainbow trout, bream and bluegill), birdwatching (Yellow-headed Blackbirds, Spotted Sandpiper, Bald Eagle, Green Heron, Osprey Peregrine Falcon and Double-crested Cormorants), boating, canoeing, skiing, and swimming.
