Reclamation's Mid-Pacific Region Collects Eyeglasses & Sunglasses to be Recycled and Donated to People in Need Worldwide

Non-interactive photo of 67 pairs of donated glassesThe Bureau of Reclamation's Mid-Pacific Region recently concluded a drive to collect used sunglasses and prescription eyeglasses that will be recycled by OneSight and LensCrafters for people in need throughout the world. The Region’s generous team members contributed 67 pairs of glasses, most of which are seen in the photograph.

According to the World Health Organization, more than 300 million people worldwide suffer from poor vision but don’t have the access or means to afford eye care or eyewear. OneSight is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving vision for those in need. Since 1988, OneSight volunteers have helped some 8.5 million people in 40 countries, hand-delivering eyeglasses and sunglasses during yearly scheduled OneSight Global Optical Clinics.

All of the collected glasses will be delivered to LensCrafters, an official OneSight partner and donation location. OneSight has 15 Global Eyewear Resource Centers worldwide where volunteers clean, repair and log the donated eyewear into a database for hand-delivery at the Global Clinics. Four Resource Centers are in Italy, three in Australia and six in the United States, one of which just happens to be located in Sacramento, the Mid-Pacific Region’s headquarters.
