BILLINGS, Mont. – Reclamation has announced the selection of Marlon Duke to fill a vacant Deputy Regional Director position for the Missouri Basin & Arkansas-Rio Grande-Texas Gulf Region, headquartered in Billings, Montana.

“Marlon is a strong candidate for this critical position,” said Missouri Basin Regional Director Brent Esplin. “Having been in Reclamation for nearly 17 years, he’s well-versed on the unique challenges we face as an agency. As a communications expert, Marlon has established solid, enduring relationships in the water and power community, and possesses a well-reasoned and skilled approach to managing important issues in Reclamation.”

Prior to accepting this position, Duke successfully served for more than four years as the Public Affairs Officer for the Upper Colorado Basin Region, based in Salt Lake City, Utah. In that role, he oversaw outreach, communication, and engagement for the region’s 82 projects and dams, and 31 hydroelectric powerplants across all, or parts of, six states.

Before coming to Reclamation, Duke served as Director of Communications for the Transportation Security Administrations Office of Human Capital in Arlington, Virgina, where he built an all-new organization to provide active engagement with the agency’s nearly 50,000 employees. Before that, he worked at U.S. Coast Guard headquarters in Washington D.C., serving as Strategic Planning Director for the services acquisition organization and led communication and legislative affairs for its $30 billion recapitalization program.

Prior to his federal service, Duke worked for General Dynamics Information Technology, Inc. and Policy Impact Communications, Inc., both located in Washington D.C. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah, and an associate degree from Dixie State University in Utah. Duke is also a graduate from the U.S. Department of Defense Executive Leader Development Program.
