HUNGRY HORSE, Mont. – The Bureau of Reclamation proactively increased releases at Hungry Horse Dam last week in anticipation of heavy precipitation in the Flathead River basin early this week. The nature of the low-pressure system is highly uncertain, which could cause rivers and streams to fluctuate greatly. Flow increases began on June 24 with expected releases as high as 10,000 cfs., depending on conditions and updated weather forecasts.

“Before recreating on the river, the public should check river conditions and should be aware of the potential hazards associated with increased water flows,” said Reclamation Water Management Operations Supervisor Joel Fenolio.
