Reclamation Releases Final Environmental Documents on Safety of Dams Modifications at Folsom Reservoir’s Dike 1; Construction to Begin January 13

FOLSOM, Calif. - The Bureau of Reclamation has released the final environmental documents on a Safety of Dams project at Folsom Reservoir’s Dike 1 in the Granite Bay Recreation Area. The Dike 1 improvement modifications are being performed under Reclamation’s Safety of Dams Program to address water seepage through the Dike 1 embankment. The work will begin on or about Tuesday, Jan. 13, and is expected to be completed approximately April 30.

The project includes five primary components: (1) stockpiling of filter materials (sand and gravel); (2) removal and stockpiling of slope protection material and riprap; (3) installation of a toe drain at the base of Dike 1; (4) installation of a gravel and sand slope filter; and (5) replacement of the stockpiled protection material on the face of Dike 1.

The final Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and are available at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=20121.
