For Release: December 23, 2014

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bureau of Reclamation has released final environmental documents on a temporary reduction in water quality requirements for groundwater introduced into the Friant-Kern Canal.

The temporary reduction may extend through Feb. 29, 2016, should drought conditions continue, and would help stretch limited water supplies available to Reclamation’s Friant Division water contractors. Sampling of water in the canal would be conducted weekly to ensure nitrate and salinity levels do not exceed certain limits.

The final Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act, and are available at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=19781. If you encounter problems accessing the documents, please call 916-978-5100 or email mppublicaffairs@usbr.gov.
