For Release: January 03, 2014

Who: The Bureau of Reclamation

What: Two open houses are planned in order to talk with landowners downstream of Scoggins Dam about emergency preparedness and earthquakes. Representatives from other agencies will also provide information at the meetings.

When/Where:

January 9, 2014
1:00-3:30 p.m.
Hillsboro Civic Center Auditorium

Hillsboro, OR

January 9, 2014
6:00-8:00 p.m.
City of Forest Grove Community Auditorium
1915 Main Street
Forest Grove, OR

Why: Reclamation completed a Corrective Action Study on Scoggins Dam in 2012 which identified earthquake-related risks and is now working with stakeholders who hold water rights at Henry Hagg Lake to create a plan for mitigating those risks.

Background: The open houses will provide an opportunity for residents to meet with experts from several agencies including the Tualatin Valley Irrigation District, Oregon Department of Geology, and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office to ask specific questions about risks that have been identified for their location.

Scoggins Dam is located 25 miles west of Portland, Ore. The 151-foot-high earth fill structure forms Henry Hagg Lake.
