For Release: December 18, 2013

MILLS, Wyo. -- At the request of Natrona County Parks and Recreation, the Bureau of Reclamation is lowering the level of Alcova Reservoir an additional 5 feet below the normal winter operating range. According to Wyoming Deputy Area Manager Lyle Myler, "The purpose of the reduced reservoir level is to facilitate Natrona County's construction of a new boat ramp at the Okie Beach recreation area this winter."

The reservoir level is expected to decline approximately 4 inches per day starting on December 21 and ending on January 5. "Water released in the drawdown of Alcova Reservoir will be restored downstream in Glendo Reservoir," Myler said. The reservoir will be maintained at the lower elevation of 5483 ± 1 foot for the duration of the winter. The reservoir will begin to rise to the summer operating level after mid-March.

Depending on weather conditions, the draw-down may create unusual ice conditions along the shoreline. Recreationists should take proper precautions.
