Media Contact: Pete Lucero, MP Region Public Affairs Officer, (916) 978-5100, 01/10/2012 16:51

For Release: January 10, 2012

The Bureau of Reclamation and the United States Geological Survey (USGS) will hold a workshop to present datasets used for the Central Valley Hydrologic Model (CVHM). Professionals involved in groundwater modeling of California’s Central Valley may be interested in attending the workshop, which is open to the general public at no charge.

The workshop will be presented in four parts over two days: Part 1, “Hydrogeologic Framework,” and Part 2, “Surface Water and Climate,” will be presented on Tuesday, January 24. On Tuesday, January 31, Part 3, “Irrigated Agriculture,” and Part 4, “Model Observations and Ways to Move Forward,” will be presented. Both workshop sessions will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m.

The workshop will provide a forum for attendees to learn about and discuss the datasets used for the Central Valley Hydrologic Model. Currently, three regional and several sub-regional model applications are being undertaken by Reclamation, USGS and the California Department of Water Resources (DWR), with each model application having unique purposes and differences. This workshop will focus on the CVHM input datasets, which include data from DWR and USGS. The workshop will include an overview of a website to share raw datasets and how the website may be expanded and linked to other datasets.

The workshop will be held:
January 24 – Parts 1 & 2
January 31 – Parts 3 & 4
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days
Reclamation’s Mid-Pacific Regional Office
2800 Cottage Way, Sacramento
Cafeteria Conference Rooms C-1001 & C-1002

For questions or to register to attend the workshop, please contact Lisa Rainger with the Division of Planning at lrainger@usbr.gov or 916-978-5090.
