Reclamation Releases Final Environmental Documents for the San Joaquin River Restoration Program Mendota Pool Gates Project

The Bureau of Reclamation has released the final environmental documents for replacement of water control gates at the Mendota Dam on the San Joaquin River near the town of Mendota, California. The Mendota Dam, owned and operated by the Central California Irrigation District, is a main diversion point for agricultural water supplies.
The replacement of gates by the district will improve flow control capabilities at Mendota Dam and as such will increase control of Mendota Pool water levels needed by Reclamation’s water service contractors and other water diverters, while allowing more accurate releases downstream to meet the needs of the San Joaquin River Restoration Program (SJRRP). All six of the Mendota Dam gates will be replaced and upgraded to operate remotely with electric control. This improvement will allow the district to reliably pass up to 1,300 cubic feet per second through the automated gates.Â
