For Release: January 25, 2005

On January 18, 2005, the Bureau of Reclamation temporarily closed its Recyclable Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center (Center) at Lake Berryessa, located at 6450 Berryessa Knoxville Rd, Napa, CA. The decision to close the Center was necessary due to the non-recyclable hazardous wastes and pesticide materials which were being deposited on site.

Reclamation has an agreement with Napa County to maintain and operate a Household Recyclable Collection Program. Reclamation operates and maintains the Center to provide the public with a safe and convenient way to dispose of recyclable household waste, oil, oil filters, and batteries.

While the Center was created in partnership with Napa County, California Environmental Protection Agency Integrated Waste Management Board, and Solano County Water Agency to encourage the public to dispose of recyclable chemicals and batteries in a convenient and safe place, it is not permitted to accept or store non-recyclable hazardous waste.

The Center will now be open for collections on Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. by appointment only. Please contact the Reclamation offices at Lake Berryessa by calling 707-966-2111, ext. 101, to schedule an appointment.

For additional information, please contact Ms. Precious Peoples at 707-966-2111, ext. 143, or Mr. Pete Lucero at 707-966-2111, ext. 106.
