Bureau of Reclamation and Pleasure Cove Marina LLC Sign Long-Term Contract for Concession Management at Lake Berryessa

On December 23, 2008, the Bureau of Reclamation signed a contract with Pleasure Cove Marina LLC for management of the Pleasure Cove Marina concession area at Lake Berryessa, Napa, California. The 30-year concession contract will remain in effect until December 31, 2038. Pleasure Cove Marina LLC has operated Pleasure Cove Marina under two competitive interim contracts since June 2005.
We have enjoyed a very positive and successful relationship with Pleasure Cove Marina LLC since 2005, and we are pleased that this relationship will continue for the next 30 years, stated Mr. Don Glaser, Regional Director for Reclamation's Mid-Pacific Region. Recreation services will gradually expand at Lake Berryessa throughout the 2009 recreation season. In addition to Pleasure Cove, Reclamation has completed contract negotiations with Pensus Group LLC for operation of the Rancho Monticello, Spanish Flat, Lake Berryessa Marina, Putah Creek, and Steele Park concession areas. The Pensus contract is undergoing final policy review within Reclamation. Negotiations with FX10 LLC will begin in January 2009 for continued management of the Markley Cove concession area. A final contract is expected to be in place by May 26, 2009, when the current contract expires.
The new contracts will result in significant new development at all seven concession areas including launch ramps, marinas, stores, restaurants, lodges, cabins, RV sites, and camping sites. These commercial facilities, together with seven government-operated recreation areas, will bring to Lake Berryessa the widest practical spectrum of recreation experiences for the public while preserving and protecting the area's natural resources. The new contracts will promote a safe environment and support the surrounding communities, while also providing the opportunity for a fair and reasonable profit for the concession contractors.
Operated by Reclamation's Central California Area Office as part of the Solano Project, Lake Berryessa is visited by some 1.5 million people annually. Reclamation-managed facilities that continue to be available include a visitor center, water education center, and recycle center; free boat launch ramps at Capell Cove; a free hand-launch ramp for kayaks at Eticuera; and the popular Oaks Shores and Smittle Creek day-use areas for picnicking, fishing, and swimming.
