Burke Given Reclamation Water Conservation Award

Reclamation's Albuquerque Area Office announced today that an Albuquerque man who has guided several New Mexico communities in development of water conservation plans is the recipient of the agency's 2007 Upper Colorado Regional Director's Water Conservation Award.

Bureau of Reclamation Albuquerque Area Manager John Poland today presented Lonnie Burke with the award. Burke, the co-owner of the water management firm Resource Wise, was nominated for the award by the Albuquerque Area Office for his outstanding work in the field of water conservation.

Under a Reclamation grant, Burke helped the communities of Taos in northern New Mexico and Hatch and Anthony in southern New Mexico to develop water conservation plans. Burke previously served as an instructor at the Albuquerque Technical-Vocational Institute, the city of Rio Rancho water conservation auditor and founder of the Presbyterian Hospital Water Conservation Program. He has also helped the towns of Jemez Springs and Bernalillo develop water conservation ordinances and rate structures.
