AMWG to Host Conference Call to Discuss Proposed High Flow Test Experiment at Glen Canyon Dam

The Bureau of Reclamation announced today that the Adaptive Management Work Group (AMWG) will hold a public conference call on Thursday, January 17, 2008, to discuss a proposed high flow test experiment later this year at Glen Canyon Dam. The AMWG advisory committee provides a forum for discussion of issues related to the operations and ongoing monitoring of downstream conditions below Glen Canyon Dam.

During the conference call, the AMWG will discuss: (1) An update on the proposed plans for a 2008 high flow test from Glen Canyon Dam, including the hydrograph and timing of the test; (2) a report from the Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center on the science plan for the proposed high flow test; (3) an update on environmental compliance activities for the high flow test; (4) a report from the AMWG's Technical Work Group; and,(5) an update on development of a long-term experimental plan.

The call will begin at 10 a.m. (MDT) and 9 a.m. (PDT) and is open to the public. Time will be provided on the conference call for any individual or organization wishing to make formal oral comments. Any written comments received will be provided to the AMWG members.

The AMWG is a Federal Advisory Committee appointed by the Secretary of the Interior with representatives from federal agencies, Colorado River basin states, Native American tribal governments, environmental groups, recreation interests and contractors for federal power from Glen Canyon Dam. The AMWG makes it possible for the Secretary to receive recommendations from these varied stakeholder interests on how to best balance protection of downstream resources and river operations to deliver water and produce hydropower.
