The Bureau of Reclamation announces the availability of the final Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Kern County Bridge replacement on Snow Road at the Friant-Kern Canal. Reclamation proposes to approve Kern County’s (County) request to for a permit to replace and widen the bridge that crosses the Friant-Kern Canal at Snow Road in Kern County.

The County proposes to replace the bridge at Snow Road with a wider bridge to accommodate an ultimate six lane major arterial roadway per the City of Bakersfield’s General Plan Update 2002. The proposed widening is a result of current and future development along Snow Road. The site is located approximately 6.5 miles northwest of downtown Bakersfield and about 3 miles west of State Route 99.

The Draft EA was prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and is available for a 30-day public review and comment period. The Draft EA is available online at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=2538.
