This slide provides a 1997 glimpse of the primary (GOES) Hydromet satellite receive
site equipment and minicomputer systems. Data received by the downlink site in Boise, ID,
are processed, stored, and analyzed on multiple
computer systems in Reclamation's Pacific Northwest Regional Office. Minicomputer systems
consolidate data received from the GOES or DOMSAT (backup) satellites with data received
from cooperating activities via Internet or other means. Redundant electronics and communications
systems are installed to provide an exceptional level of data collection reliability.
Much of this data is retransmitted to other
Reclamation offices, government agencies and individuals. A variety of communications
capabilities are supported in order to improve access to Hydromet data.
