With more than 25 volunteers, including 15 Reclamation employees, the community showed up in a big way to create an unforgettable day for a special group of kids.
More than 35 children with disabilities and disadvantages got to learn about fishing from local experts; spending the day out in nature, soaking up the fresh air and sunshine. Reclamation’s mascot, Otto the Otter was on hand to bring cheer and show his support. Each child received a special care package and a C.A.S.T. for Kids t-shirt.
Haley Hunter, Mrs. Idaho 2017, was a special guest of the event, along with her son Wyatt, encouraging everyone to have fun and be safe. Together, Ms. Hunter, Otto the Otter, and all the volunteers emphasized the value of teamwork, exercise, cooperation, and being a kid.
Ten boat captains volunteered with their vessels, including one who traveled all the way from Oregon to spend the day helping out. One first time participant, Sarah Triolo, caught 18 fish!
Volunteers said they had a great time, and that the event was a meaningful and valuable way to spend the day. The kids said they had fun! Many kids said they hoped to come back and ride in boats and go fishing again very soon.
The C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation is a public 501(c)3 Charitable Organization. It was formed in 1991 to connect volunteers who love fishing and the outdoors with disabled and disadvantaged children for a day of fishing.
We want to thank the staff, volunteers, and sponsors who made this event possible, and all the great participants for bringing their best attitudes, and their willingness to learn, explore, and have fun.
