Sam Spiller, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

Sam Spiller is the Lower Colorado River Coordinator for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) and has performed in this capacity since 1999. Prior to this he has worked in the following capacities:

  • 1998-99 – Southwest Strategy Service Coordinator, Fish and Wildlife Service Regional Office, Phoenix , Arizona
  • 1986-98 – Field Supervisor, Arizona Ecological Services Office, Phoenix , AZ
  • 1984-86 – USDI, Departmental Management Development Training Program, Washington DC
  • 1978-84 – Fish and Wildlife Biologist, Corpus Christi Ecological Services Office, Corpus Christi , TX
  • 1977-78 – Fish and Wildlife Biologist, Bureau of Reclamation Regional Office, Amarillo , TX
  • 1976-77 – Wildlife Management Biologist, Bureau of Land Management, Battle Mountain , NV
  • 1975-76 – Site Superintendent, Ft. Massac State Park and Wildlife Management Area, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Metropolis, IL.
  • 1973-75 – Louisiana State University , Baton Rouge , LA. Received M.S. Wildlife (wetlands concentration), 1975.
  • 1970-73 – University of Tennessee , Knoxville , TN. Received B.S. Forestry, 1973.

His primary expertise is associated with protection of species and their habitats associated with the Endangered Species Act, Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, and associated planning and management as they concern freshwater and estuarine wetland and riparian habitats.
